Ruth Santee

My work refers to a living world, however the flora and fauna I create are surreal and toy-like. My creatures have an anthropomorphic identity, reminiscent of advertising characters from 1950s, i.e. like the Green Giant and the Michelin Man. Art informed viewers may recognize influences in my work of artists Nick Cave, Mike Kelley, and KAWS.

My medium is mixed. I use recycled materials; found objects/shapes put together along with created shapes to form surreal creatures, I call beasts.
Themes of identity, feminism, environmental concerns, and the current social climate course through the veins of my art. I see my creations as metaphor for the human condition.

A recent comment from my Instagram account:
"I like your work a lot. It makes me feel like I am living back in my childhood. It introduces me to a world where it's not about war. It's about freedom, peace and love. Everyone who is getting a chance to see your work is happier right after. Thanks for spreading the vibe." Uomo Nero, (German artist)
