Pandemonium of SoCal Parrots, 2023. Oil and wood on canvas.

Growing up in Southern California, the loud squawking of parrots flying over at dawn and dusk was a familiar comfort. Hearing their sounds now reminds me of  California sunsets and their wild antics are endearing. I've always been inspired by nature – birds and flowers in particular. I use fragmented images to convey movement and passing time, and exaggerated eyeball-blasting color motivates and energizes me and my work. In this piece I mix my loves of painting and building. Wood cutouts add dimension and a custom-built frame showcases this raucous and jolly group of birds, gathered on a day-glow Magnolia tree.
