Gabrielle Berens

Gabrielle Berens is a multidisciplinary artist, visual arts educator, and a mother to two small beautiful humans. She earned a BFA with a concentration in Painting and Printmaking from Southern Methodist University in Dallas in 2009. After graduating, she then earned a K-12 visual arts teaching credential and spent many years teaching art in Title I schools. Gabrielle just completed the second year of a three year MFA program with a concentration in painting at San Diego State University.

The theme connecting my multidisciplinary art practice is figuration and interpretation of the organic world through the use of densely layered materials and patterns. In my practice I work with, but not limited to, paint, ceramics, textiles, and printmaking. My artworks are constructions of interconnected patterns and contemplations of growth. My practice is a way for me to situate myself in the complex order of the natural phenomena of nature. My recent works have begun to extend and grow into space, inviting the viewer to also experience the sense of interconnectedness with our natural world that fascinates me.
