Anna Luisa Delgado

Anna Luisa Delgado is an fiber, ceramic and media driven artist based in San Diego, CA. Anna’s artwork examines multicultural identity through fragments of stereotypical and ritualized objects and actions. Through her process, she rediscovers and reinterprets what it means to be an American.

For many, tulle fabric is infamously known for its delicate nature and its transparency. Delgado intentionally uses this material to embody the fatal journey of Mexican immigrants. This x-ray-like material further alludes to the post-mortem process of identifying those who perished in their attempts for a better life. The artist draws inspiration from the historical past and from own life growing up in a multicultural-environment in Southern California’s Inland Empire. The multi-disciplinary artist has had her work exhibited nationally, the recipient of numerous awards, and currently teaches ceramics a the collegiate level.
